Spannabis Barcelona set to end in 2025, event announces

Europe’s largest cannabis trade show and fair, Spannabis, has announced that its March 2025 event will be the last to be hosted in Barcelona.

The event, which attracts tens of thousands of people from around the world, has been held in the Spanish city of Barcelona since its inception in 2002.

However, the event organisers today announced that the venue that hosts the event, the Fira de Cornella, will be demolished in 2026, and no suitable alternative is available in the Catalan capital.

Barcelona has become a popular destination for cannabis consumers and industry members, thanks in part to its thriving social club scene. While cannabis is still illegal in Spain, an estimated 200 non-profit associations can be found across the city as personal possession and use are decriminalised.

The announcement was made by Spannabis in an email to exhibitors sent on 6 March. In the email, organisers explained that they do not have access to any venues in Bareclona or surrounding areas that meet the necessary requirements to hold the event. Instead, Spannabis 2026 will be held at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC) in the north of Spain.

Spannabis previously held a smaller version of its annual event in Bilbao in 2024. The 23rd edition of the event will also move to later in the year, with the dates set for 17th, 18th and 19th April 2026.

The final Barcelona event, which will take place on the 14th, 15th and 16th of March 2025, will “mark the closing of a historic chapter for Spannabis in Barcelona,” organisers said in a press release sent to leafie. “For more than two decades, the city has been the epicentre of the cannabis sector in Europe, attracting thousands of professionals, exhibitors and visitors from around the world.”

The new location “will allow for an improved experience for both exhibitors and visitors, while maintaining the essence and quality that have made Spannabis a benchmark in the sector,” the press release said.

“Furthermore, Bilbao is a vibrant and well-connected city, with a growing economy and a first-class tourist and cultural offer. Its strategic location guarantees easy access for both national and international visitors.”
